NIN: FG says foreign diplomats must register, opens special centre
The Nigerian government on Sunday announced that foreign diplomats are not exempt from the National Identity Number (NIN) enrolment happening across the country.
Femi Adeluyi, a technical adviser to communications minister, in a statement on Sunday stated that the special centre has been set up based on a request by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.
He said the request was made in a bid to make the enrolment process easy for diplomats.
“This enrolment centre will provide support for members of the Diplomatic Corps and will be managed by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, through the National Identity Management Commission.” Mr. Adeluyi said.
The special center will be set up by January 19.
This enrollment is mandatory for diplomats who may be resident in the country for two years or more, as well as other residents in the country according to the NIMC Act of 2007.
This announcement comes a day after the Federal government ordered a shutdown to enrollment activities carrying on at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Headquarters.
