#EndSARS: Osinbajo, six governors make new committee to engage youth, civic groups
The National Economic Council on Monday raised a new committee to look into outstanding issues around the ailing economy and ongoing campaigns against police brutality.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will serve with six other governors on the new panel, which would engage the youth, civic groups, religious and traditional leaders.
Acute unemployment, social security initiatives and national unity were listed as amongst core objectives of the panel, Peoples Gazette learnt Monday night.
Governors Aminu Tambuwal, Babagana Zulum, Sani Bello, Rotimi Akeredolu, David Umahi and Ifeanyi Okowo will serve on the panel, which would be chaired by the vice-president.
The committee will develop a comprehensive framework to coordinate joint actions and steps to be taken by federal and state governments to examine the fundamental issues underlying the #EndSARS agitations and arrive at effective solutions, the council resolved during the virtual meeting Monday afternoon.
The Gazette learnt that the committee will commence work immediately.
Nigerians have warned both state and federal authorities that public protests in the ongoing #EndSARS campaign were only relaxed to allow room for implementation of proposed solutions.
