In a bid to fight terrorism and other forms of insecurity, the United States of America has promised to deliver the 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft ordered by the Nigerian government.

Barbara Barrett, U.S. Secretary of Air Force made the disclosure during a two days tour visit to Nigeria.

According to the the Punch, Ms. Barrett visited the country’s capital city, Abuja between January 4 and 5.

During her tour, she met with members of the National Assembly and senior military officials at the Ministry of Defence.

Ms. Barrett noted that 60 Nigerian military pilots, instructors and aircraft maintenance experts would undergo training for 24 months when Nigeria takes delivery of the aircrafts as scheduled.

The U.S Embassy in a statement Tuesday, added that Barett’s visit would enhance cooperation between the U.S. government and Nigeria.

“The positive trajectory of the military cooperation between the US and Nigeria,” noting that the talks covered a range of defence and security matters of mutual interest.” U.S. embassy said.

Despite spending billions of dollars over the years in procuring weapons and other military hardware to curtail the upsurge of terrorism in the north-east, Abuja is yet to figure out a solution that would end Boko Haram insurgency that has lasted for over a decade in the country.
