Adamu Garba, a supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, has withdrawn a suit filed at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, which sought the proscription of American-owned social networking service Twitter in Nigeria.

Mr. Garba had in his prayers requested that $1 billion be awarded against Twitter founder Jack Dorsey for endorsing the now rested #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

The presidential hopeful and his team of attorneys, however, boycotted proceedings when the case came up for hearing late November.

Reacting to criticism of his no-show by many Nigerians who had termed the lawsuit as frivolous, Mr. Garba tweeted Monday that his legal team had commenced the process of withdrawing the case, having “achieved its aim” of dissuading the Twitter boss from interfering in Nigeria’s domestic affairs.

“My case with Jack (Twitter founder) was an effort to try to prevent Nigeria from foreign interference,” Mr. Garba said in a video posted on his handle Monday afternoon. “So, what I did was to quickly hang a court case on his head.”

He added: “As soon as that happened, he (Jack) stopped tweeting about soliciting donation to sustain the protest.”
