Saraki heads to Lagos as in-law Dapo Ojora dies by suicide
Dapo Ojora, Toyin Saraki’s brother, has died by suicide in Lagos, reports said on Friday night.
The Street Journal which appeared as the first to report the news said Mr. Ojora, known for his polo skills amongst Lagos elite, died on Friday evening of gunshot wounds to his head. His age was not immediately clear but he was the elder brother of Mrs. Saraki, wife of the former Senate President who turned 56 in September.
Before taking his own life, Mr. Ojora was reportedly enmeshed in a costly divorce with his wife, which left him financially drained for some time.
He was long identified as one of the prominent sons of Adekunle Ojora, a Lagos businessman who once led Nigerian arm of Italian oil giant Agip.
The Sarakis departed for Lagos overnight following the development.
In a statement Saturday morning, Mrs. Saraki conveyed the appreciation of the Ojora family to the public, and sought respect for their privacy.
“As we mourn our irreparable and devastating loss, we appreciate the condolence messages and prayers that we have received, and seek your understanding that the family be allowed to grieve in private,” she said.
