Police dock Islamic teacher for alleged assault on students
The police in Ekiti on Monday arraigned a 40-year-old Arabic teacher, Yusuf Ismaila, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his students.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 15, at Agric Road in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr. Olasunkanmi said that the defendant assaulted his students, Sheidu Abdulraham, 15, and Saliu Abdulbari, 13, during a Quranic class which caused injury to their body.
He said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Abiola Gboyega, counsel to the defendant, urged the court to grant him bail in liberal terms with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abdulhamid Lawal, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until January 26, for mention.
