Research by Reboot Online places Nigerians as 24th on the list of nationals most likely to quit social media.

The company used analytics tools Ahrefs to cross-reference search engine searches and established what countries’ citizens have hinted at quitting social media.

These findings are based on online searches indicating their clear intention to quit social media using search terms such as ‘how to delete social media?’ ‘how to delete Facebook?’ ‘how to delete Instagram?’ ‘how to delete Tumblr?’ ‘how to delete TikTok’? ‘how to delete Twitter?’ and ‘how to delete Snapchat?’

The data was based on the average monthly online searches for deleting social media’s overall figures, and 30 countries were ranked from highest to lowest.

Reboot Online highlighted abuse and harassment as reasons users seemed intent on taking social media breaks, citing French footballer Thierry Henry quitting social media last month due to cyberbullying and racism.

The country at the top of the list is the United States, with Americans averaging 1,134,400 online searches per month, indicating their intention to leave social media.

Reboot Online recorded 312,320,000 active internet users in America, meaning 0.363 per cent of American internet users want to quit social media.

India and the United Kingdom follow the U.S., with 497,940 and 308,850 searches showing plans to quit social media.

Canada recorded 109,120 online searches, and Australia, with 97,060, are among the other countries with over 9,000 online searches per month, respectively ranking third and fourth.

Nigeria ranks 24th on the list with an average of 6,760 monthly searches. Out of Nigeria’s 136 million active internet users, this number represents 0.005 per cent of users likely to quit social media use.
