Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has described the departure of Mesut Ozil from the team as a result of Arsenal’s failure to assist Ozil.

Mustafi in his tweet stated that “you have been the most unselfish player on and off the pitch. Unfortunately we as a team haven’t been able to assist you when you needed us the most.“

Mesut Ozil has been sidelined for over six months following his refusal to allow his wages be cut due to the effect of the pandemic on Arsenal’s finances. Mesut Ozil had demanded for a clear account of how the deducted wages will be spent before he can oblige to the deduction.

Arsenal’s billionaire owner Stan Kroenke and the board had been infuriated with Ozil’s action and sought to drop him from the team unless he apologised.

Arsenal had implemented cuts from players and staff wages to be able to manage the economic downturn as a result of shutdown on football activities due to the pandemic. A longtime Arsenal’s chaperone was one of the officials who had to be let go for cost-saving measures.

Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2014 after having a successful career which climaxed with three successive Uefa Champions league trophies.

Turkish team Fernerbache apparently eased Ozil out of his frustration after being sidelined for so long by securing his transfer to their team.

The World Cup winning player with Germany has had his career on a pause due to lack of football action. Ozil came to Arsenal when they had been going through a prolonged trophy drought and helped the team to win the FA Cup in 2016 with Arsene Wenger as manager .

Ozil is respected by football fans for his superb skill of creating goal scoring chances with his killer pass and his unique dribbling abilities.
