President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the award of N2.9 billion contract to eight firms for the printing of sensitive and non-sensitive examination materials.

Mr. Buhari approved the proposed sum while presiding over the weekly cabinet meeting virtual meeting held Wednesday at the Presidential Villa.

Education minister Adamu Adamu said the contract covers printing of materials for the Basic Education Certification Examination, the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the National Common Entrance.

Mr. Adamu did not disclose the names of the awarded printing firms. He, however, stated that examinations yet to take place had been postponed due to “recent disturbances” in the country.

Peoples Gazette reported that thousands of Nigerian youths had thronged the streets nationwide to protest against years of unrestrained police brutality.

The Gazette also reported that the National Examination Council on Sunday announced an indefinite postponement of this year’s ongoing SSCE due to security challenges across the country, which resulted in some states declaring curfew.

President Buhari today, also approved the sum of N1.6 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrade of some selected roads in the Federal Capital Territory.

FCT Minister Mohammed Bello disclosed that N900 million was awarded to Messrs Teleview International Nigeria Limited to fix the roads in Gwagwalada Area Council.

Another company Messrs Sahabi Liman Sons Nig. Ltd., was awarded N719 million for rehabilitation of Kwali Area Council rural roads.

The contract duration of both contracts is six months, Mr. Bello said.
